About My Life as a Book
Nothing can ruin summer plans more than having to do a school assignment! Reckless twelve-year-old Derek is forever finding new ways to add mischief to his day "just for the fun of it". And with summer vacation starting, he plans to do exactly that . . . until his teacher assigns required reading over the summer.
Though Derek is a relatively bright student and talented artist, he enjoys reading only if it is his favorite comic Calvin and Hobbes. He does NOT like someone else telling him what to read. Because of this, he struggles in school and is labeled a "reluctant reader" by his teacher.
Getting sidetracked from the actual assignment, Derek discovers a surprising piece of reading material that finally captures his interest to the point of obsession--a newspaper article about a teenage girl, Susan James, "Found Dead" on the beach. Discovering Susan had been babysitting him and died while saving his life, Derek decides to embark on his own assignment to find out all he can about her and the circumstances of her death.
Learn what Derek unravels as he discovers there are stories to be found everywhere in My Life as a Book.
