Meet Award-Winning Author Mac Barnett!
Saturday, May 7 • 1 PM
Suisun City Kroc Center
586 Wigeon Way, Suisun City
Mac Barnett, the dry-witted author of award-winning books such as Oh No Not Again, President Taft is Stuck in the Bath, and Terrible Two Get Worse is this year’s Solano Kids Read author.
"Meeting the person who wrote the books you love is similar to meeting a rock star who penned your favorite song,” said Bonnie Katz, Solano County’s director of library services. “Every year parents tell us it was a thrill for their kids to meet a famous author. But they don’t have to tell us, we see it in the faces of their children.”
The fun will kick off with magic from Kelly the Clown, then Barnett will talk about reading and writing for children and field questions from the audience. Adults who have heard his TED talk will recognize his deadpan humor and his unique approach to writing, “I want a book to be a secret door that opens and lets the stories out into reality.” To celebrate Comic Book Day, which is also May 7, everyone who attends will receive a free comic book.
This year Solano County Library branches are offering special Mac Packs, backpacks filled with Mac Barnett books, to be checked out in anticipation of the author’s visit. Also planned are seven programs throughout the county to get young readers ready for the big author visit. Solano Kids Read, sponsored by the Solano County Library Foundation, is dedicated to fostering a love of reading by bringing celebrated children’s authors to Solano County.
Barnett is a New York Times bestselling author of over 18 books for children, including two Caldecott-Honor-winning collaborations with Jon Klassen: Sam & Dave Dig a Hole, which also won the E.B White Read-Aloud Award, and Extra Yarn, which won both the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award and the E.B. White Read-Aloud Award. His picture books Leo: A Ghost Story and The Skunk, illustrated by Patrick McDonnell, were named two of the Ten Best Illustrated Books of 2015 by The New York Times. Mac also writes the Brixton Brothers series of mystery novels.
All events are free and open to everyone, but seating is limited.
