Teen Writing Contest Winners

By Elizabeth Bell

The Solano County Library is pleased to announce the winners of the Teen Writing Contest!

Teens ages 12-18 were invited by the Solano County Library to submit original poems, short stories, essays, and comics last December for the Teen Writing Contest. The contest began in October during Teen Read Week, which is a national adolescent literacy initiative created by the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). Entries were judged by local dignitaries.

The winners will be published in an online journal that will be produced this summer.

The winners for the short story category are Michaelina Lissick, Tia Kawazoe and Richard Wolf. The winners for the poetry category are Bradley Paoli, Caroline Infante and Gabriella Jinata.

The winner for the essay category is Faiza Mohammed. The winner for the comics category is Nathan Saelee.

Thank you to our judges for judging the entries. The judges were Supervisor Monica Brown, comic book artist Marcus Calloway, young adult author Adelle Yeung and Vallejo Poet Laureate D.L. Lang.

Thank you to the Friends of the Library for their generous support of library programs.
