Solano County Library is in need of volunteers for its Adult Library Literacy Services.

Volunteers have the opportunity to help change the lives of adults struggling to carry out everyday tasks such as reading their mail, talking to their doctor, or reading a book to their child.

Literacy is vital for a healthy and thriving community.  There are many Solano County adults who struggle with their reading and writing skills.  Some 20 percent of Solano County’s population is considered functionally illiterate – 64,993 adults.  Children with parents who struggle with reading and writing skills are much more likely to struggle in school.

Solano County Library Literacy Services will hold volunteer tutor orientation on Saturday, January 9 OR Wednesday, January 13.  For more information call 784-1526 or visit the library’s literacy website at www.solanolibrary.com/literacy.
