What Author Event: “The Fifth Woman” is a novel by Nona Caspers who will read from her book and be in conversation with David William Hill.

Who Nona Caspers has received numerous awards and honors, including a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship, a San Francisco Arts Commission Cultural Equity grant, and a LAMBDA Literary Award nomination. One of her previous books, “Heavier than Air,” was awarded the Grace Paley Prize in Short Fiction and listed as a New York Times Book Review Editors’ Choice. Her most recent book, “The Fifth Woman,” was selected by Stacy D’Erasmo for the Mary McCarthy award. She is currently the chair of the Creative Writing Department at San Francisco State University. David William Hill is a writer, editor, and teacher based in Vallejo, CA. His work has appeared in several literary journals, including Chicago Quarterly Review, Cimarron Review, and J Journal: New Writing on Justice, among others. He also served as assistant editor for two oral history books, “Underground America: Narratives of Undocumented Lives” and “Invisible Hands: Voices from the Global Economy.” He has taught writing at San Francisco State, Academy of Art University, City University of Hong Kong, and The Writing Salon. He currently offers individual writing services and teaches in the Vallejo School District.
