Fine Free FAQ
Why is Solano County Library no longer collecting overdue fines?
Our goal is to make sure our patrons can enjoy all the books and services the library has to offer. Overdue fines can prevent some patrons, especially children, from checking out books and other materials from the library. The Library wants to unblock accounts, encourage patrons to bring items back, and use the library once again.
When does the new Fine Free Policy go into effect?
As of July 1, 2020 all current accounts will be made fine free and will start with a clean slate. Please note that this does not apply to lost or damaged items.
Will the Library lose money due to the new Fine Free Policy?
Overdue library fines account for less than one percent of the Library's revenue. The Library will absorb the loss in revenue in its operating budget.
How will the Library get people to return borrowed materials?
“No fines” does not mean “no responsibility.” Patrons will be blocked from checking out further items if the items are not returned within fourteen days of the due date.
