Lea Lorusso
3-7-13
The Library offers a lot of different activity’s for teens. I participated in three activities at the Fairfield Cordelia Library. The first program I participated in was with a speaker named Wil Cason and he helped me and other teens to achieve our goals and make us strive to do better. It was really useful and helped me out a lot. The second program was also with Wil Cason but this time it was to help with confidence. You would be surprised by how many kids that were at this program were very unconfident. What Wil did was he had all of us do activities together and helped build our confidence. For example we would each say a little speech about our self’s, describe words that made us feel good about ourselves, and played a tennis ball game to build confidence and help teamwork. Finally the third one was a self-defense class for women which really helped, you wouldn’t believe how easy it is to get yourself out of a situation where you’re in trouble. I was very surprised by how much the library offers for teens and young kids. These programs really help, they sure did help me. Everyone should come to the library whether it is for tutoring, reading, self-defense, building confidence and setting goals. The library helps everyone so much so you should stop by and see what’s going on at your local library.

Physics: The Laws of Me and You
by Emily N

Everything in the universe
Attracts everything else in the universe:
The Law of Universal Gravitation
When did the laws of physics
Become the laws of my life?
When we first met,
I felt the attraction between us
Like the gravitational pull
Of two planets across the universe
But as our galaxies collided,
We spiraled closer to each other
And the forces between us grew stronger.
For every action,
There is an equal and opposite reaction:
Newton’s Second Law of Motion
I don’t know the catalyst,
But I feel the repercussions every day –
Your actions inducing reactions –
And I can’t help but notice the
Spiraling results of these events
Worsening each hour
Actions and reactions
Cause and effect
Give and take
The chaos increases
Contributing to the entropy of our relationship
Until silence
Is all
That remains
No words
No secret smiles
Just the pale flash of your face
As your eyes skim past me
And an icy breath of wind lifts the hair from the back of my neck.
In magnetic fields,
Opposite poles attract
First discovered by Pierre de Maricourt in 1269.
Once we were pulled together
By forces beyond our knowing
But, like the scientifically inexplicable
Flipping of the Earth’s magnetic poles,
Something inside of you has shifted
Like the molten core of iron and magnesium
Suddenly changing its path
Of a hundred thousand years
And swirling against the spin
Of Earth’s rotation
For a reason beyond our comprehension.
I don’t know what happened,
Or how, or why,
But something is different.
You push me away, avoiding my eyes,
And walk past me like I’m not even there,
As though I’m invisible
By some phenomena of the natural world
And like magnets pushed apart by an unseen force,
The closer I get to you,
The farther you pull away
Until all that’s left
Is this unbridgeable gap between us.
The total energy of the universe is constant;
It can be changed or moved,
But never created or destroyed:
The Fundamental Law of the Conservation of Energy
Intellectually, I know I haven’t lost anything,
Even though it feels like
My entire world has fallen away
Beneath me,
Even though I want to cry
Every time I see you walking away,
Even though, sometimes,
I can’t breathe when I think about you,
Because everything is a reminder
Of the way things used to be.
Somehow, I know
You didn’t take anything from me.
We collided elastically
For a brief moment in time
Then spun apart in different directions
New angles of trajectory
Paths unforeseen by either of us
But now we fall back to earth,
The stars flying past us,
Blurring the distinction between dark and light,
Until we enter the atmosphere,
Accelerating at a constant rate
Of 9.81 meters per second squared
Until we reach terminal velocity,
Turning into blazing trails
Of light across the midnight sky
Like the dusty tail of a comet
Nearing earth only once
Every seventy years,
Or the breathless flash
Of a shooting star,
Streaming silently towards
An unseen destination.

This television series is a classic that is not to be missed. This is a story where no character goes unnoticed and minor characters may have an effect on an episode that is greater than that of the main character.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer has an intricate, constantly changing plot that never ceases to intrigue and entertain its viewers. Buffy, a sophomore in high school, was expelled from her last school for burning down the gym when it was full of vampires and must move to a new town named Sunnydale. Buffy is the only vampire-slayer in the entire world, meaning her destiny is to slay vampires and other supernatural forces of evil. She can only tell the people she trusts the most about her destiny, so she was forced to say she burned down the gym because of asbestos.

On Buffy's first day at Sunnydale High, she is greeted by Cordelia, a mean, popular girl. As Cordelia shows Buffy around her new school, Buffy is unhappy about the way Cordelia treats her peers, especially a girl named Willow. Willow and her best friend Xander become Buffy's best friends and when she has to save them from supernatural harm, she tells them about her identity as a slayer. With the support of her friends and family, Buffy triumphs over many powerful villains and saves many lives.

If you are a fan of the old Dracula movies, the Twilight Saga, the highly acclaimed Supernatural series, or someone who enjoys a good horror drama I strongly recommend this to you.

Branch: Suisun

The U.S. government does not want to have Mrs. Ryan lose all of her sons. So they send a team of eight men lead by Captain John Miller (Hanks) to find Ryan and bring him home. They face impossible odds such as facing a German sniper and winning, capturing a German Base, and defending a town down to the last men without losing the will to fight. The movie opens with the casualty filled D-day raid which is an eye opener!
What I thought of the film
A great film for history buffs and war junkies alike. Very real throughout the whole movie. Would watch again and again!

By: Matthew G
Branch: Cordelia

This is my 6th time reading this book. But it never gets old, this author, Brian Selznick with lot of amazing drawings, he creates most brilliant story you’ll ever read. This book looks thick but it doesn’t have much writings. But it has a lot of drawings that makes up most of the story. So even though you hate thick books, this book is worth trying. This book is about an orphan boy named Hugo trying to get this auto man to work, which is left by his father. And he has to still gears from toy booth and goes through a lot of tough things. With little help of toy booth girl, he gets auto man to work and discover an amazing secret you’ll never imagine. I think this book is for all ages if you can read. And recently this book was also made in to a movie. But I think this book is way better, so read this book before you watch the movie!

by Jordan Monet Jackson

I want to start a revolution
How many times have you been told
You aren’t good enough?
You're too fat to thin not tall enough
You are wrong, I cannot even say how many times I have heard this They cast us out to stumble along our Poorly lit paths unable to see through their Words of blind hate they call us blind and wrong But they are the ones who do not under stand

I call you to rise up with me against the strains of Conformity I call you to rise Our voices our weapons Our very souls blessed to be our armor We are warriors We are true warriors The weird the Outcasts The strange I call you to a movement

I am here to start a revolution
No longer do we slave away
Too the pre-conformed Ideas of beauty
No longer do we simply accept what we are told I call you to rise they cast us out thinking to weaken us

The Unique the Strange the truly beutiful I call you to arms raise up! against them We rise up against the Chains cast on to us by the world

We find the beauty in the soul not on the face I call you to war, Our only battle scars?
From not being able to love ourselves before this war I call you to rise Pick up your swords Join the Fight against the conform Join me in the revolution!
