What is Lynda.com?

Lynda.com provides a vast library of streaming online instructional videos covering the latest software, creative, and business skills. Taught by accomplished teachers and recognized industry experts, Lynda.com is a high-quality resource for anyone looking to learn new skills in a wide range of subjects including photography, animation, music, web development, software, and project management.

Who can access Lynda.com?

Solano County Library customers with their library card number and PIN, have unlimited access to the complete Lynda training library. Customers can take an unlimited number of courses with 24/7 access on their computer

There is a simultaneous user limit that is set at 75 for Solano County Library.  This means 75 users can be online using the service at the same time.

How do I access Lynda.com?

Lynda.com is available by web browser.  Lynda videos may be downloaded to view later when a customer does not have internet access.

Customers can access Lynda.com on the Library’s website, on the Databases page or directly at:  https://www.lynda.com/portal/sip?org=SolanoCounty.com

Can I use the Lynda.com mobile app?

At this time, the Lynda.com mobile app is unavailable for library customers. Lynda.com will be launching a new mobile app in late summer 2019 that will be available to public library customers.

How do I use Lynda.com?

When you access the Lynda.com site, you will be asked to enter your Solano County Library card number and 4-digit PIN.  First time users will then be asked to set up a profile by entering your name and email address.  Once your profile is set up, you only need your library card number and PIN to access Lynda.com in the future. 

To find a course, click on the Library menu to browse the list of business, technology and creative course subjects or use the search box.

To use the video training, select a video and start watching.  The video player includes various options, including playback speed.  You can speed up the video to finish it in half the time (2x) or slow it down to watch something closely.

Each video offers an Overview, Transcript, View Offline option, and often an Exercise File. 

Under your profile, you can create playlists, bookmarks, view your course history, and print Certificates of Completion.
