“Adopt a Shelf” Volunteer: Make weekly visits of 1 to 2 hours to make sure “your” shelves are tidy and books, DVDs and other library materials are in order.  Training is provided and volunteers should be capable of reaching and bending.

Adult Literacy Services: Help adult students improve reading, writing or English speaking skills.

Locations: county wide

Art Class Coordinator: Host a series of art workshops at the library, teaching art techniques and strategies. Using provided art supplies, lead class members in art exercises and present subject matter such as aspects and merits of great artists in history.
Locations: Vacaville Public Library-Town Square

Bilingual Computer Trainer: Help Spanish-speaking users navigate the Internet and online library resources.

Locations:Cordelia, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville, Vallejo

Clerical Help: Help with data entry, filing, typing, clipping and other “behind the scenes” work.

Locations:Cordelia, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville

Collection Development: Assist Technical Services Department research titles in catalog to see if they meet subject and fund guidelines. Detail oriented tasks.

Locations: Fairfield Headquarters

Collection Maintenance: Remove damaged, tattered or duplicate copies of books and those that are infrequently checked-out to be evaluated by a librarian. Facilitate the movement of retired books to the Friends of the Library and duplicate books to their home libraries.

Computer Docent: Help individuals and small groups learn how to use the library’s computerized catalog, explain what is available through the Library’s website, demonstrate various searches, help to introduce patrons to the internet, set up email accounts. Be on call for patrons in the computer center, answer general questions, and resolve problems. In some locations computer docents help customers troubleshoot their e-readers and help them connect to the Library’s e-book collection.

Craft Assistant: Assist with the craft preparations for children’s storytimes.

Locations: Fairfield, Vacaville, Vallejo

Events Helper: Provide support to library staff and other volunteers during community outreach events such as free flu shots, backpack giveaways, the Produce Pipeline, and the Christmas Wish program. Work may include answering questions, helping fill out forms, and helping organize crowds.

Grand people and Books: Volunteers of all ages share books and their love of reading with children who are visiting the Children's Section of the library.

Homework Help Coordinator: Work with Young Adult Librarian to recruit student tutors from local high schools to offer free tutoring to elementary and middle school students. Help facilitate pairing between tutors and students, schedule tutors and supervise the weekly group tutoring sessions.

Library Buddy:"Bring the library" to the homebound by delivering books and other library materials once or twice a month.

Locations: Fairfield, Vallejo

Library Buddy Coordinator: Help coordinate visits between volunteers and homebound customers.

Newsletter Distributer: Distribute flyers and other promotional materials monthly to designated locations in their local communities in Solano County.

Skip Doctor: Restore damaged library materials, primarily CD and DVD discs, with a simple machine called the Skip Doctor. Training provided on site.

Spanish Storytime: Spanish-speaking adults are needed to help plan and perform library storytimes in Spanish.
