OverDrive Help for Kindle Users

Kindle Fire or Kindle Fire HD users will need

The Kindle Fire and Fire HD are based on Android, so you can install OverDrive Media Console (OMC) for Android to enjoy EPUB eBooks and MP3 audiobooks from your library. See below for Kindle and Kindle Reading App users.

• OverDrive Media Console for Android

• A library card

Directions

Install software

1. Go to the OverDrive Media Console for Kindle Fire page from your Kindle Fire or Fire HD.

2. Click the "Available at Amazon Appstore for Andoid" button. (Note: If unable to download from the Amazon appstore click "Download OverDrive Media Console" link that is also available.)

3. Review the license agreement. Tap I Agree to download the installation file.

4. Pull down the notification bar. Tap ODMediaConsoleSetup.apk once the download is complete.

5. If prompted, open the file with the 'Package Installer.'

6. If you get the 'Install blocked' message, follow these instructions to allow installation from 'Unknown Sources.' If you don't get this message, continue on.

7. Review the application permissions. Tap Install to start the installation

8. Once the app installs tap Open to launch OMC for Android, or tap Done to close the installer.

Borrow titles from your library's website

From your Kindle Fire, open OMC and tap the Get Books icon to find your library and borrow titles.

Enjoy

eBooks automatically open in OMC so you can begin reading as soon as the download is finished. OMC's features include bookmarking, brightness controls, night mode, text size adjustment, orientation lock, the option to return an eBook, and more. 

Kindle and Kindle Reading App users will need

Note: Some Kindles may require you to manually transfer the title to your PC via USB. You can check out Amazon's support page for instructions on how to do this.

• Kindles with a Wi-Fi internet connection can download most books directly from Amazon.

• For computers and other devices, additional software is needed:

• Kindle for PC (Windows)

• Kindle for Mac 

• Kindle for Android 

• Kindle for BlackBerry 

• Kindle for iPhone (and iPod touch) 

• Kindle for iPad 

• Kindle for Windows Phone 7 

• Kindle Cloud Reader 

Browse, check out, download 

1. Browse OverDrive Library to Go. You can use a computer, or you can download titles directly with devices such as a Kindle Fire or other tablet.

2. Once you're there, find an eBook you want to read and check out.

3. You can select any title that displays the 'Kindle Book' icon.
