Project Background

 

The strategic plan will guide the Library's services and staff actions for the next five years. The strategic plan will seek significant public input during its preparation starting in the Summer 2016 all the way to its anticipated completion in January 2017.

 

The strategic plan seeks information about the types of services that will meet current and future community needs, interests, and concerns, and how the Library can better communicate its value to the citizens of Solano County.

 

The strategic plan will be prepared using a well defined process, displayed in the Project Roadmap. This process integrates the Library’s desire to engage the community through a variety of means to build awareness, advocacy and support, and to lay the foundation for the future. The Project Roadmap has a number of specific tasks.

 

The consultants will seek public and staff input through a variety of ways:

 

  • Surveys: telephone survey of over 750 respondents offered in English and Spanish, online public survey available from the Library's website also in English and Spanish, and advisory body online survey
     

  • Direct Public Input: stakeholder interviews, casual conversations with library users and non users, and five community forums in Fairfield, Vallejo, Vacaville, Suisun City, and Rio Vista. We invite your participation at the community forums; additional information for specific locations and dates/times will be available from the Library's website.
     

  • Direct Staff Input: online staff survey; multiple interactive staff workshops including with all staff (Staff town halls) and with a staff Leadership Team comprised of branch managers, department heads, and other staff.
     

 

The project is managed by the Library's Coordination Team, comprised of the Library's executive management team.

Over the last few months, the Library has obtained the following forms of input for the strategic planning process:

 

  • A telephone survey for local residents (offered in both English and Spanish)
    (completed September 2016)
     

  • Stakeholder interviews (to be completed October 2016)
     

  • Community focus groups (to be completed October 2016)
     

  • An online survey for the public (completed September 2016)
     

  • An online survey for Library staff members (completed September 2016)
     

  • An online survey for elected and appointed officials (completed September 2016)
