Being Thankful
By The Say-er of It 11/20/09 at 9:51AM
Thanksgiving is next Thursday! What are you thankful for? Perhaps, consider volunteering at your local food bank or shelter to help others in need. Or, maybe you want something to do while you’re waiting for Thanksgiving dinner to be ready? Well, check out some of these websites.
The History Channel’s website is always great for videos, facts, & figures. Find out the history of Turducken (which is delicious by the way). Correct your knowledge with the Mayflower Myths section. Check out the Thanksgiving Day quiz. And there’s more!!

Do you know what it’s like to be a refugee? I discovered an interesting game called Against All Odds sponsored by the United Nations. It follows a young person trying to escape oppression in his/her country to go into exile into another country. According to the website: “The game is intended to increase students’ awareness and knowledge about refugees – where they come from, what situations they have faced and how they adapt to their new lives.”

Did you know that public school is not free in many countries? Do you know what it takes to escape poverty? I have been playing a strategy game called Ayiti: The Cost of Life. It is up to you to determine the fate of this family of five! This game is sponsored by UNICEF.
