Thanks to a grant from the California State Library, Solano County Library’s book locker is a system that allows library users the flexibility to pick up holds from an outdoor locker any time of day or night, even when the library is closed. With a simple scan of their library card, anyone can pick up their available holds from this convenient locker system. It is located at 3375 Sonoma Blvd in Vallejo, CA.

Using the Book Locker

The Vallejo First 5 Book Locker is available to pick up holds and return items 24/7.

How to Place Locker Holds

Place Hold Online
• Browse our library catalog to find the materials you would like to hold.
• Select the “Place hold” button and a drop down menu will appear.
• Using the “Pickup at” option, select “Vallejo First 5 Locker”

Email Confirmation
You will receive an email notification once your items are ready for pickup at the locker. Be sure to bring your Solano County Library card.

The Hold Pickup Locker is located outside of The Vallejo First 5 Center. For your convenience, the lockers are accessible 24/7.

Collecting Items from Book Locker

Operating the Book Locker

First, select Borrow. Scan your library card, or manually input your library card number using the touch screen keypad.

Once your library card has been inputted, a list of your hold items securely stored in the book locker will be displayed. Press Accept to proceed or Cancel to exit.

After selecting Accept, the items are “Checked Out“. The list of your hold items will turn *green, and the door will open. You can then take the items out of the locker. Please close the door afterward, so that the book locker may be used by the next person.

Lastly, press Finish to complete your visit.

*If items cannot be picked up due to ILS policies (e.g. you have too many items already out on loan), highlighted holds will be shown in red. The visit will be canceled. If so, please call us at 1-866-572-7587 during open library hours for more information.

How to Collect Locker Holds

Scan Library Card
• Scan your library card or input the card number using the touchscreen keypad.
• A list of items will appear* and a locker will open automatically.

*If a red bar appears and a locker does not open, it may be because of something along the lines of you having too many items checked out. Please call 1-866-572-7587 during open library hours.

Collect Items
• Print your receipt.
• Collect your items and close the locker door.

What is a book locker?

The book locker is a system that allows library users the flexibility to pick up holds from locker any time of day or night, even when the library is closed. It’s similar to an Amazon Drop Box – it is an automated kiosk where library users can pick up holds.

How does it work?

Place Hold Online
• Browse our library catalog to find the materials you would like to hold.
• Select the “Place hold” button and a drop down menu will appear.
• Using the “Pickup at” option, select “Vallejo First 5 Locker”

How long do I have to pick up my items from the book locker?

Your items will be on hold for you to pick up at the book locker for 7 days.

Is there anything I can't pick up at the book locker?

We encourage you to explore our collection via the book locker! Please keep in mind that some items may not be able to fit in the book locker.
