Juneteenth Art Contest: April 4 – May 4, 2022. “What Does Freedom Mean To Me?”

In celebration of Juneteenth, Solano County Library invites Solano children and teens to use their imaginations and art to bring to life “WHAT DOES FREEDOM MEAN TO ME?“

Kids from kindergarten through their senior year of high school are invited to submit images or drawings and paintings. A winner will be selected from each of the following age groups: Grade K—4, Grade 5—8, and Grade 9—12. The winners and their families will receive complimentary tickets to the Solano County Library Foundation’s African American Cultural Experience event and dinner. All winners will see their art published on the Library’s website and printed for onsite display at all branches.

Contest Rules

Submissions must be original artwork. Parents or another adult guardian must be OK with the submission and agree with the use of the artwork as described on this page. Artwork will be judged on creativity and most importantly, the artwork should fall under the theme of “What Does Freedom Mean to Me?”

The contest will run from April 4, 2022 to May 4, 2022.

Juneteenth is a celebration of freedom and acknowledges the June 19, 1865 abolition of slavery. Solano County Library chose “What Does Freedom Mean to Me?” as the theme for the 2022 Juneteenth Art Contest because we want children to use their imaginations to define, redefine freedom in 2022 in the spirit of Juneteenth. It’s up to the kids to interpret the theme, create their own vision.

EN CELEBRACIÓN DEL DIA DE EMANCIPACION, LA BIBLIOTECA DEL CONDADO DE SOLANO INVITA A LOS NIÑOS Y ADOLESCENTES DE SOLANO A USAR SU IMAGINACIÓN Y ARTE PARA DAR VIDA “¿QUÉ SIGNIFICA LA LIBERTAD PARA MÍ?“

Los niños desde el kínder hasta su último año de escuela secundaria están invitados a enviar imágenes o dibujos y pinturas. Se seleccionará un ganador de cada uno de los siguientes grupos de edad: Grado K-4, Grado 5-8 y Grado 9-12. Los ganadores y sus familias recibirán boletos de cortesía para el evento y la cena de la Experiencia Cultural Afroamericana de la Fundación de la Biblioteca del Condado de Solano. Todos los ganadores verán su arte publicado en el sitio web de la Biblioteca e impreso para su exhibición en todas las sucursales.

Reglas del Concurso

La presentación debe ser una obra de arte original Los padres u otro tutor adulto deben estar de acuerdo con la presentación y estar de acuerdo con el uso de la obra de arte como se describe en esta página. Las obras de arte serán juzgadas por su creatividad y, lo más importante, la obra de arte debe caer bajo el tema de “¿Qué Significa La Libertad Para Mí?“

El Día de Emancipación es una celebración de la libertad y reconoce la abolición de la esclavitud el 19 de junio de 1865. La Biblioteca del Condado de Solano eligió “¿Qué Significa La Libertad Para Mí?” como tema para el Concurso de Arte Juneteenth 2022 porque queremos que los niños usen su imaginación para definir, redefinir la libertad en 2022 en el espíritu del Dia de Emancipación. Depende de los niños interpretar el tema, crear su propia visión.
