The Beast Player is a unique book that tells the story of a young, curious girl named Elin. Elin’s mother is in charge of caring for the kingdom’s water serpents, who are known as Toda, that form the core of their home kingdom’s army. Elin’s life is forever changed when some of the Toda her mother takes care of mysteriously die. As punishment for letting the Toda die, her mother must be executed by the Toda. Once Elin hears this, she tries to save her mother, but fails. Her mother uses her last moments to save Elin tells her to leave for safety.  Elin ends up far away from home and starts a new life. She ends up making many discoveries that threaten to bring chaos. This fantasy book is unique since Elin learns by observing the world around her. It is quite inspiring reading about someone who is very curious. I think this book will be a good read for people who like reading books about fantasy and animals.
