Book: The Betrothed
Author: Kiera Cass
Reviewer: Amy, 8th Grade
The Betrothed by Kiera Cass is a novel full of romance and drama, and will have you gripping your seat. As Hollis Brite finds herself the center of King Jameson’s attention, she struggles as she tries to please her parents and the other lords at court. However, everything changes when Hollis finds herself drawn to the Eastoffe family for reasons she cannot fathom. As you read about her journey, there are many twists and turns throughout that will make you want to keep on reading. Furthermore, I enjoyed the way Hollis’s emotions are expressed throughout the novel; there are feelings of sorrow, confusion, and happiness that blend together to make Hollis appeal to be a very amiable character. What surprised me when I read this book was how attached I would get to the characters. Finishing the book definitely made me realize more of how I had started to entangle myself in their story and become devoted to each of them. I would rate this book 4.5/5. I don’t read much romance, but this novel was one of the best I’ve ever read. I think teens who enjoy a dramatic, riveting read will undoubtedly enjoy The Betrothed.
