Book: The Fold
Author: An Na
Reviewer: Nathan Rumbaoa, 11th Grade
Following the life of an Asian-American going into her junior year of high school, An Na reflects the struggles of daily life for the common teenager in her novel, The Fold. As she returns to school, Joyce Park depicts the high school stereotype of being deeply in love with someone who is even oblivious to her existence. Go on this love-filled journey with Park and discover the way she learns to love herself throughout her many adventures in her junior year. I really enjoyed the message of self-love and the connection that it had with Joyce’s understanding of her culture. If you like books that follow the structure of a hero’s journey, then this book will be amazing for you. In addition, because the book is told from the perspective of a student in high school, it is more than likely that it will be a novel that you can easily relate to and apply to your own life. Personally I would rate this book a 5/5 because of how much I enjoyed reading the book and I hope you will as well!
